For those who do not know, the closure is the stop date. The day the number has to be ready, all the pages finished, revised and PEDEFeades. It is the day in which those pdf are delivered to printing and crosses the little fingers so that everything goes well.
Then there are what we are still called Ferros (although they are no longer Ferros). Some fotomechanical tests to verify that everything has been mounted correctly (the sheets is a bit mess) and that give us a new possibility of retouching some little thing...
The last closure of Hobby Consoles was last Thursday, the number 364, the 30th anniversary number. And yes, it has been a bad closure. Look that lately we had them very controlled, because this has been a number of those who come twisted from the beginning...
Always, in each number, there are things that go wrong. Some plan is always twisted, something always happens. Therefore, I always have a plan B, and up to a plan C.
In general, when the number goes very well and the plans do not twist, I get nervous, because that means what is going to happen (something always happens), it s going to be right in the closure. And it s usually something for what I had no alternative plan...
But there are numbers that start twisted from the beginning. Numbers in which the initial plan falls even before starting. And this number of the 30th anniversary has been one of those numbers.
Things planned for months have been falling, changing and remodeling as the month progressed. To the planning the planning. (Sometimes I wonder if it s worth planing).
We have suffered technical problems (the death of my computer included), changes of dates, advertising movements that have altered the planar (the scheme of the pages of the magazine), expected games that have not arrived, others who have arrived when nobody expected them...
Have you seen the documentary of Hobby Hobby Consoles ever told ? José Luis Sanz talks about that first issue for which they had four months and, even so, it was overwhelming... you do not imagine the subsequent ones!
Technology has changed a barbarity and now it is much easier to work than 30 years ago. There are better teams, draw screens is easier (attentive than Marcos García counts on the documentary), we have the inestimable help of online connections, the world of data that is the Internet, the email... but things are still twisting.
Although we can still blame the computer that has been hanged, although models are still often broken, although there are still games that do not work when they should work, those are smaller and less frequent problems.
The reason why always, always, the closures become regulated (there are bad, horrible, frightening and the most worst in the world world) is because we do not know how to stop. Because we want each number be the best possible.
And we rethink if we take pages to one thing that is made to put that other topic that has just been announced, we reopened a closed model to change the screens, because you have got other better...
And, of course, retouching Retouch, time is escaped between your fingers. If you have three weeks to close, you close. If you have six weeks, you close... of bad. If we have time, we consume it avid, instead of treasuring it...
In 30 years we have learned many things and closed better than one or two decades ago, but it is costing us to learn to leave things as they are when you can not do anymore.
And we do it because you, the readers, are not the fault of whether the code of such a game does not work, if a delivery date has been moved and it leaves us little time to play (sleep is overrated), if X company has Decided that in the end does not want to provide authorization for that poster or that another one prefers not to give high images.
Less you are still the fault that a text file is corrupted, a collaborator is bad, change the time of a flight and touch going to work without sleep... and without changing clothes.
Behind a magazine on paper there is a lot of dark work that is not seen, but it shows, and our maxim has always been that you did not realize what it had failed. That you did not give you a prison account, of The buds, of the Broncas with the companies...
We have not always achieved it, of course. Sometimes the rush have been translated into despires (like that sonic in the lists of NES) or in incorrect information (such as that Shenmue 2 in PS2).
Sometimes, no matter how much we have shouted, cried and supplied we have not achieved anything, as with that cover that was for Horizon: Zero Dawn and it must have been for Breath of the Wild...
And no, we can not fight against time. If today the Remake of Silent Hill is announced (what you want, I have weakness), do not read it in the magazine that comes out tomorrow to the kiosk... would not see it even though it would have been announced on Monday.
Weather always defeat us, and even so, we have been closing 30 years. Fighting against time and against the elements.
If you leave tomorrow for a kiosk (or Saturday, or Sunday...), take an eye on Hobby Consoles 364. If the problems with printing were solved (there have also been problems with printing in this closure, and with photomechanics) you are going to find a very special number.
We reveal the game that you have chosen as the best of Hobby History Consoles; We give 10,000 euros in prizes, we have honored classical sections, it has poster (which also has its problematic history) and we tell you some curiosity.
That Hobby consoles turns 30, it is said very soon, but living it has been very long. From each of the 364 closures a battarting could be counted (almost all with happy ending), in which the team has left a piece of skin.
Maybe, within another 30 years, the closures have ceased to be a problem (it is my goal in life), although, I do not know why, it gives me the feeling that, in the end, if time we It allows, will continue to be that, the terrible closure.
Thank you very much for joining us throughout this time. You have been the lighthouse that has made us go ahead, dodging pitfalls. I hope you continue to dodge 30 more years, although I m no longer to close.
And if you want someone someday, explain what the plan, the sheet, the ferros and everything that is not seen, but that is, you just have to ask me.
